My Bio: Lucy Seipel
Lucy Davis
My name is Lucy Davis, and I am currently a First Professional Year (P1) student at the University of Findlay's College of Pharmacy. I have a bachelor's degree in Human Biology from Ohio University, where I graduated a semester early in December 2022. I work as a pharmacy intern at a hospital, where I previously gained experience as a certified pharmacy technician for a year. These roles have allowed me to develop a strong foundation in hospital pharmacy operations, patient care, and medication management. I am passionate about building on this experience and applying my knowledge to positively impact patients' lives.
I am particularly interested in pursuing a career in a hospital setting, with a growing curiosity about veterinary pharmacy. My goal is to complete a residency after graduation to further specialize in my areas of interest and to continue advancing as a healthcare professional. I am eager to explore different opportunities in pharmacy and contribute meaningfully to patient care.
Goals (Personal & Professional): Lucy Seipel
Develop Experience with OTC Medication Recommendations
I will provide recommendations for at least three over-the-counter (OTC) medications to patients, under the supervision of a preceptor, to build my confidence in advising patients in a community pharmacy setting. This will allow me to gain hands-on experience in an area I have not encountered in my hospital work.
Goals (Personal & Professional): Lucy Seipel
Learn the Workflow of Community Pharmacy Operations
Since I have only worked in a hospital setting, I will familiarize myself with community pharmacy operations by observing and participating in at least three key processes, such as prescription filling, patient interactions, and insurance claims processing. This will help me gain a well-rounded understanding of the differences between hospital and community pharmacy workflows.
Internships: Lucy Seipel
Spring 2025 IPPE Hours
For my Spring 2025 IPPE rotation, I completed 100 hours at CVS in downtown Columbus under the guidance of my preceptor, Bryan Helm, where I actively engaged in a variety of tasks in a busy retail pharmacy setting. I administered vaccines and processed prescriptions by entering new orders, transferring existing ones, and writing accurate sig codes, ensuring that every detail met patient safety standards. In addition, I prepared medications by counting, labeling, and pulling products while also handling voicemail prescriptions with precision. I assisted with patient counseling on over-the-counter products and navigated the OTC aisles to create informative worksheets that outlined dosages along with both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic counseling points. Moreover, I managed a high volume of phone calls, coordinating with prescribers and other pharmacies to clarify orders and address insurance-related issues. This diverse range of responsibilities sharpened my technical skills and enhanced my communication, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of community pharmacy operations.
