Carnes has been a lifelong learner and has been studying IT and networking since 2001, before his military service. After his retirement, he decided to delve back into the subject instead of sitting at home and sticking to the retired life.
In retirement, Carnes has started writing a book about life working the streets, including his time as a dog handler. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is on the Dean's List.
Outcome: Effectively communicate with end users, managers, and peers of a technical and non- technical nature.
Outcome: Participate in social, academic, and professional communities for individual growth and to function as a citizen of a multicultural world.
How Met: Created a PowerPoint presentation with voice over discussing mental health disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, causes, and how it affects people working together in the workplace. This addresses mentally disabled individuals in the workplace and the inclusivity.


Outcome: Transfer knowledge, skills, and behaviors acquired through formal and informal learning and life experiences to new situations.
How Met: Completed project using prior knowledge I had to taking college courses, as well as information in prior classes to Networking 241, regarding cyberattacks. Documented causal factors for management and stakeholders (who did not have IT expertise) as well as recommended after action.

How Met: Created a how-to IT guide for new personnel on Active Directory, including researching equipment. Working with OUs, users, groups, group policies, and password policies.

Outcome: Use information technology to apply logical, legal, and ethical principles in performing industry related tasks or projects in a global systems environment.
How Met: Created a PowerPoint presentation with voiceover discussing IP addresses, subnetting, network classes, IPv4 and IPv6, Routing, and Routing Protocols.

Outcome: Demonstrate the ability to translate technical information into business language to meet organizational needs.
How Met: I created a project where I was to assume a role as a Network Admin for the college. I discussed changing the network for the school to a wireless network. This includes a wireless map, proposal, and site survey.

Outcome: Research, identify, evaluate, recommend, and specify components of complete systems relative to hardware/software needs of an enterprise.
How Met: I created a how-to guide for Linux for the IT department for new employees to the new employees for the IT team. Linux is used in servers for enterprises. This works great for people new to Linux.

Outcome: Utilize appropriate current technology and resources to locate and evaluate information needed to accomplish a goal, and then communicate findings in visual, written and/or oral formats.
How Met: I completed assessments using the e-library locating information to create long-term and short-term SMART goals and listed them in written formats.
Outcome: Employ strategies for reflection on learning and practice in order to adjust learning processes for continual improvement.
How Met: Completed a project on the need for researching topics. This includes how to properly document in APA format, used in the entirety of this college program and in the workforce.

Outcome: Follow established methods of inquiry and mathematical reasoning to form conclusions and make decisions.
How Met: Completed a project for a balanced budget, debt and expenses, and how-to save properly for a home. Project also included how to save for retirement.

How Met: I completed a project where I interviewed a college professor who is an expert in cybersecurity, which is the field I want to work in. In the interview, we focused on how a multicultural work force is essential to the success of companies in cybersecurity. I then created an APA formatted essay regarding the interview.
