Informal Career Plan
Hi Ms. Mole, I am just seeing your email instructions to submit this assignment through Blackboard. I hope am not too late, as I thought I had already properly submitted this assignment to ePortfolio. I was not aware I had to submit it through both ePortfolio and Blackboard and never noticed the section underneath the instructions that were highlighted in black. I had tried submitting it through 'Ask Instructor' when I could not properly upload to ePortfolio, then eventually uploaded it to ePortfolio that same night. Apologies for the confusion and delay in getting this into Blackboard. Thank you! View

Hi Ms. Mole, I was unaware this was to be submitted here rather than Blackboard. So, this delayed me in submitting by 11:59. I initially had trouble and could not figure out how to access this part of ePortfolio. I then uploaded it to ask instructor forum in order to submit it on time, but unfortunately, was late by one minute. I only just realized how to access this section and upload my file. I understand if you still must deduct late points, I just thought I would at least let you know. I also plan on submitting late work. I have not yet been able to reach out, but I wanted to discuss some issues regarding my performance for the last couple of weeks. This is a new computer as my last one finally gave out, so I could not access school email. Once I am able to do so, I will reach out. Thank you! View

Prioritizing Soft Skills

Hello and welcome to My Portfolio! My name is Vanessa McLendon, and I am an Aspiring Professional. Currently, I define myself as a hardworking scholar, wife, and mother. However, in the spirit of growth and enrichment, I would like to somewhat reframe this narrative and explain exactly who I am, where I have been, and where I wish to go. I am a student at Bryant & Stratton College, set to graduate next month with an associate degree in Paralegal Studies. Upon graduation, I plan to continue my education and earn a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. My professional background consists of over 13 years’ experience managing in-person customer service requests and overseeing administrative functions. However, I am recently experienced in legal research and writing, including drafting correspondence, pleadings, briefs, and memoranda, and I have gained considerable proficiency with legal research platforms, such as Casemaker and Westlaw as well as case management software, litigation, and e-discovery programs—namely, Concordance, Summation and Trial Director.

While I do not yet retain an employment background rich in long-standing experience (as often sought by employers), I believe pragmatically optimizing my natural talents, such as my ability to communicate effectively, manage relationships, interpret situations, explore new ideas and formulate solutions, quickly and easily adapt to changing trends, and respectfully accept the input of others, can quite favorably override any lack of experience. I feel these skills are the essential hallmarks of successful career development and preparedness and can make an immediate and profound impact. These soft skills are what drives my day-to-day performance and what I am hoping will prove most useful in facilitating my career advancement.
