Hello and welcome to My Portfolio! My name is Vanessa McLendon, and I am an Aspiring Professional. Currently, I define myself as a hardworking scholar, wife, and mother. However, in the spirit of growth and enrichment, I would like to somewhat reframe this narrative and explain exactly who I am, where I have been, and where I wish to go. I am a student at Bryant & Stratton College, set to graduate next month with an associate degree in Paralegal Studies. Upon graduation, I plan to continue my education and earn a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. My professional background consists of over 13 years’ experience managing in-person customer service requests and overseeing administrative functions. However, I am recently experienced in legal research and writing, including drafting correspondence, pleadings, briefs, and memoranda, and I have gained considerable proficiency with legal research platforms, such as Casemaker and Westlaw as well as case management software, litigation, and e-discovery programs—namely, Concordance, Summation and Trial Director.
While I do not yet retain an employment background rich in long-standing experience (as often sought by employers), I believe pragmatically optimizing my natural talents, such as my ability to communicate effectively, manage relationships, interpret situations, explore new ideas and formulate solutions, quickly and easily adapt to changing trends, and respectfully accept the input of others, can quite favorably override any lack of experience. I feel these skills are the essential hallmarks of successful career development and preparedness and can make an immediate and profound impact. These soft skills are what drives my day-to-day performance and what I am hoping will prove most useful in facilitating my career advancement.
This is my Assessment Portfolio assignment which meets the institutional outcome of utilizing appropriate current technology and resources to locate and evaluate information needed to accomplish a goal, and then communicating findings in visual, written, and/or oral formats.
