Cultural Background: Chanel Prince-Hendriex
Cultural Background as an African American Woman

As an African American woman, my cultural background is shaped by a history of resilience, strength, and community. African American culture is deeply rooted in traditions passed down through generations, including strong family ties, spiritual foundations, and a commitment to perseverance in the face of adversity. This background also reflects the legacy of those who fought for civil rights, equality, and social justice, which continues to influence how I view the world and my role within it.

Growing up within this cultural identity means valuing community support, expressing pride in cultural heritage, and understanding the importance of advocating for fairness and opportunity. My experiences as an African American woman also influence how I navigate societal expectations, overcome challenges, and build confidence in both personal and professional settings. This cultural foundation shapes my goals, my motivation, and my desire to contribute positively to others, especially those facing barriers related to mental health, social inequality, or limited access to resources.

Goals (Personal & Professional): Chanel Prince-Hendriex
Goals (Personal & Professional)
My personal and professional goals begin with completing my associate degree in Human and Social Services. After that, I plan to continue my education and earn my bachelor’s degree. Once I achieve that milestone, I hope to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice, with the intention of connecting both fields to strengthen my career path. With my background in Human and Social Services, my long-term goal is to advocate for individuals experiencing mental health challenges and substance use disorders. I want to make a positive impact by supporting vulnerable populations and helping them access the resources they need.

Interests

I have a deep passion for caregiving, as I find great fulfillment in supporting others and making a positive impact on their well-being. Whether it's helping family, friends, or those in my community, I believe that offering care and empathy is one of the most meaningful ways to connect with others.

Alongside caregiving, I am deeply interested in education. I’m committed to lifelong learning, not only for my own growth but to help others in their educational journeys as well. Whether it's supporting others in their academic pursuits or continuing my own studies, I feel that learning is a powerful tool for personal and community transformation.

Cooking is another of my passions. I love experimenting in the kitchen and creating delicious, healthy meals for myself and others. It’s not just about food; for me, cooking is a creative outlet, a way to unwind, and an opportunity to nurture those around me. I also find joy in learning about different cuisines and how food can bring people together.

One of my greatest aspirations is to become an advocate for mental health. I am driven to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote better understanding of mental health challenges. It’s a cause close to my heart, and I want to be part of creating a society where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health. I am passionate about supporting those who are struggling and helping to create resources and systems that make mental health care more accessible and effective for everyone.

Additionally, I’m passionate about community service, whether through volunteering, organizing events, or contributing to causes that improve the lives of others. I believe that a strong, supportive community is crucial for overall well-being and that we all have a responsibility to help those around us.

In the future, I’d also love to explore opportunities in holistic wellness, including mindfulness practices, mental health therapy, and how nutrition can support emotional and physical health. I feel that combining these aspects will enable me to offer a more well-rounded and compassionate approach in my caregiving and advocacy work.
