Ethics in a workplace can be defined as the code of morals that directs the behavior of employees concerning what is right and wrong regarding behavior ad decision making. Workplace ethics also involves how employees govern themselves and the general work attitude encompassing morality or the lack thereof.
Ethical behavior in a workplace can enhance employees' positive conduct, which can lead to substantial organizational growth, just like unethical behavior can lead to tremendous damages. Good ethics in an organization leads the employees to have better self-esteem and the inspiration to be productive. The business and the employees alike, therefore, realize benefits as employees' performance is enhanced. The inspiration of individuals’ mindsets can encourage and motivate inattentiveness and creativity, thus directly impacting organizational productivity (Ranasinghe & Samarasinghe, 2019). Employee innovativeness can be improved by encouraging positive ethical behavior at the workplace. This innovativeness is vital for the long-term prosperity of the organization.
Employees who do not have the same ethical standards, especially when they do not observe the correct code of conduct set by the organization, can be trained to start acting by the standards. The organization can also reward ethical behavior for promoting good moral behavior. Another important aspect is to set an example for all the employees so that those who are and those who are not following the same ethical standards can follow my lead. It is also important to consider how employees are treated either by peers or by senior members. Poor behavior could just be a result of mistreatment of employees. This mistreatment can be dealt with to improve the ethical conduct of employees. Also, corporations should always have an employee code of conduct available, so all members of an organization can have a clear perception of where the firm stands on different ethical matters.
