My Bio: Ashley A. Weise
Biography

“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This unequivocal statement has resonated with me from I first heard it at about age ten (10). Throughout my academic life thus far, these wise words constructed the backbone of my goals and endeavors. Being a first-generation university student and graduate, hailing from the land of wood and water, Jamaica is where I was born and raised. My vibrant personality is often loved by everyone I meet and I always have a radiant smile to showcase even when life throws me countless battles.

In 2019, I was given the opportunity to come to America by my father who left me to fend for myself a few months after I got into the country. Struggling to find my footing, not knowing anywhere or anyone, I was taken in by my late uncles’ wife. I truly felt like giving up. Nonetheless, I reached and kept through the seemingly endless battles that life threw at me. The desire to help and give back to my mother who works unceasingly to assist me is why I continue to toil. Her efforts and prayers will not go in vain hence the reason I decided to obtain a second degree in Pharmacy.

My ultimate objective is to work in both the science and business fields of Actuarial Science and Pharmacy to strengthen my educational and professional skills. My interest in the sciences and mathematics compelled me to pursue a career in pharmacy. I cherish mankind, as I frequently state. Following the COVID-19 epidemic, my focus has switched to the improvement of the US healthcare system and the globe at large. Through knowledge, hard work, and perseverance, I will be able to overcome any difficulties and assist to develop and serve as the epitome of a worker of change. "Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the full staircase," remarked Martin Luther King Jr. Therefore, as a firm believer in Christ, I continue to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Goals (Personal & Professional): Ashley A. Weise
Goals

As Nelson Mandela famously said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It is therefore essential that we set goals in order to achieve an aimed target. For me, my goals can be categorized as follows:

  1. 1-5 years- My main focus is completing the PharmD program with exceptional grades.
  2. 5-10 years- During this time, I would just be starting out in the practice so these would be my experiential years. I aim to form lifelong connections in the social aspect and garner enough practice to begin my own business.
  3. 15 years- I hope to open a few businesses from the practice and become stable enough financially to give back to the community. I hope to create awards and scholarships to aid youths that may be struggling or are in the position that I am in so they may have an easier road to their future.

Queens AS-L Service Opportunities GallopNYC

Clare Balding once stated that if you are afraid, a horse will back off. It will come to you if you remain calm and assured. For individuals who are frequently flattered or scared, the horse may be a pleasant mirror of the finest in human nature. My visit to GallopNYC Sunrise Stables, located at 80-98 Linden Blvd, Howard Beach, Queens, NY, was the personification of this phrase. GallopNYC provides equestrian riding and therapeutic horsemanship programs to New Yorkers, with a focus on riders with disabilities, veterans, elders, and at-risk adolescents. They also provide recreational riding programs to the general public. The recreational and therapeutic schedules at each location change seasonally.

GallopNYC's goal statement is to employ therapeutic horsemanship to enable riders with disabilities in NYC walk, communicate, and learn, empowering them to live their lives as completely, independently, and effectively as possible. They assisted disabled children and veterans in therapeutic horseback riding lessons. I volunteered as a side walker for riders at Sunrise Stables. Volunteers get a sense of accomplishment from assisting children and adults with developmental, emotional, social, and physical issues, all while working with and being among horses, one of nature's most compassionate creatures. My function was purely motivating in nature. The rider is the responsibility of the side walker. Side walkers support the rider in engaging with the class and encouraging and assisting them in participating in class as needed.

As guided by the instructor, side walkers may also give physical support to the rider. If the rider was terrified or apprehensive, I would walk beside them and put my arm over their leg. Furthermore, if the rider was more experienced, I would just walk alongside for inspiration and as an extra pair of ears as the teacher spoke and gave instructions. I thoroughly loved the experience and will gladly volunteer again. I appreciated seeing the smiles on everyone's faces and the light of hope that the sessions offered to those who attended.

My Top 5 Strengths and Reflection: Adaptability, Analytical, Context, Deliberative, Harmony

These characteristics actually capture my personality as a whole and are an accurate reflection of me. My talents surprised me since they match my personality and zeal. My analytical skill derives from my passion for the sciences and mathematics; it highlights my ability to think, solve problems, and pay attention to detail. My deliberation and adaptability strengths derive from my ability to comprehend the needs of others and my desire to assist and give back to my community as a good communicator. Having an extroverted personality, harmony and context, helped me better appreciate my patience and ability to function under duress. By doing what I do best, I want to harness my abilities to help me reach my goals. I feel that if I keep a level mind and a determination to attain my goals by any means necessary, I will fly to new heights.

Pharmacy: A First-year reflection

Pharmacists perform critical roles in all parts of the healthcare system. With an exceptional pharmacy curriculum, John's University has a proven track record of producing remarkable pupils. This, along with the fact that it is a short commute, is one of the reasons I chose St. John's. The customer service function is one that that sectors of the Pharmacy profession demand us to understand the requirements of our patients and to be patient while dealing with various groups of individuals. In terms of matching my goals to my strengths. We must guarantee that our goals are connected with our strengths and that they are real to you. Proficiency and success will be yours eventually. When creating a goal, keep in mind that it is a harmonic balance of our performance, energy, and utilization of a strength that should be considered, not the number of goals set. If your abilities aren't useful in achieving the goal, think about if it's something you actually want to achieve. Recognize any flaws or taught behaviors that might stymie your progress. For me, I always aim for the sky. I ask myself, "Is there anything on your to-do list that you've been putting off till the proper time? Or are they shoved to one side?". Then, In moments of fear, I lean on this power.
