CCA: The Pharmacy of the Future? Personalized Pills, 3D Printed at Home.
This TED talk was a very eye-opening experience for me to watch. Dr. Daniel Kraft speaks on the topic of printing a single pill with the capability of combining multiple drugs in order to minimize errors and promote/improve patient adherence. As a future pharmacist, this is great news! By having these on demand, patient based and disease centered system, our patients may be inspired to continue on their therapy as directed instead of missing doses or not taking the drug correctly. With the improvement in technology and how it is continuing to grow, we are going towards a more real-time monitoring system of vitals and medication taking. For example, Dr. Kraft discussed how he can have an EKG the size of a bandaid that directly reports to the doctor who then can prescribe one of these "intellimedicine" capsules that adapt to the patient and allow them to take one medication dosage form. This would help the patient in the same way that taking their other 5 or more pills would, with the added benefit of adherence. In my own practice, I can apply this idea of efficacy being centered around patients in my daily practice. If these printers are introduced to pharmacies, it can completely change our healthcare system. Lines may be shorter, waiting times decrease as well, errors will be minimized and it may be more cost effective over time with a large upfront cost of the printer but cheaper to combine these medications.

CCA: Unlocking Insights: Exploring potential of RSV Vaccine
This activity allowed me to dive into the topic and skill of educating my future patients on the importance of receiving the RSV vaccine. Specifically, we went over common misconceptions regarding vaccines, including that they cause autism or overload the immune system. In addition, this lecture allowed me to identify high risk groups for RSV in our population and look at ways that we can help them get access to these immunizations. We looked at how to prepare and administer the RSV vaccine in both forms that it comes in, which will allow me to be slightly familiar with the process before getting the hands on experience at my IPPES/APPES/workplace. Additionally, we were shown the current recommendations for the vaccination which allowed us to look at the clinical relevancy of both the disease and prevention. Most importantly, from this lecture, I am able to use various techniques in order to address and hopefully overcome vaccine hesitancy. It is especially frightening to patients when they hear a long medically complex name and I believe that it is important as pharmacists and healthcare providers that we show patience and remain a helping hand to our patients when they have trouble navigating the medical world. Regardless of this vaccine, Dr. Cardaropoli helped to show the impact that we can have on our patients and how going the extra mile to explain something to a patient could be incredibly beneficial to the patient's therapy.
