Project: Evy Myrick SOSC225

Outcome 6 - Integrate new and prior knowledge, skills, and behaviors acquired through learning to engage in career, life, and academic pursuits.

I attached my SOSC225 Career Development II Portfolio Project to Outcome 6 because this assignment required me to bring together everything I’ve learned throughout my program and apply it to my future career. In this project, I reflected on my strengths, created my MyCred profile, and developed a clear plan for entering the medical reimbursement and coding field.

This project helped me build knowledge about career planning and professional communication, skills in presenting my accomplishments and preparing for employment, and behaviors such as self‑reflection and professionalism. These will help me confidently transition into the workforce.

Outcome 4: Evaluate the accuracy and completeness of the patient record based on policies, regulations, and standards.

I selected my MCCG210 Clinical Documentation project for Outcome 4 because it required me to review patient records and determine whether the documentation was complete and compliant. I analyzed provider notes, identified missing information, and checked for accuracy.

Through this project, I gained knowledge of documentation standards, skills in reviewing and verifying clinical information, and behaviors such as attention to detail and critical thinking. These are essential in preventing errors, ensuring compliance, and supporting accurate billing.

Outcome 3: Abstract information from medical charts to assign correct ICD‑10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes.

I attached my MCCG222 Portfolio Project to Outcome 3 because it required me to read medical charts, identify key clinical details, and assign the correct diagnosis, procedure, and supply codes. This project closely reflects real‑world coding responsibilities.

I strengthened my knowledge of coding guidelines, my skills in chart abstraction and code selection, and behaviors such as accuracy and consistency. These are critical for proper reimbursement and maintaining the integrity of patient records.

MCCG240 Health Information Management Portfolio Project

Outcome 1: Demonstrate competency in assembling, processing, maintaining, storing, abstracting, analyzing, indexing, and retrieving health information data.

I chose my MCCG240 Portfolio Project for Outcome 1 because it required me to work with health information throughout its entire lifecycle. I practiced organizing, maintaining, and retrieving patient data in ways that support efficient healthcare operations.

This project helped me build knowledge of health information systems, skills in managing and analyzing data, and behaviors such as organization, responsibility, and confidentiality. These are essential for anyone working with patient information.

My Professional Goals

I aim to gain hands‑on experience in an entry‑level medical billing or coding position so I can apply the skills I learned in my Medical Reimbursement and Coding program. I plan to earn professional certifications such as the CPC or CPB to strengthen my qualifications and increase my career opportunities. I want to continue improving my accuracy with ICD‑10‑CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding to help reduce claim denials and support efficient reimbursement. I also plan to expand my knowledge of HIPAA regulations, insurance guidelines, and compliance standards to ensure high‑quality, ethical work. Over time, I hope to grow into specialized areas of coding or advance into roles such as coding auditor, revenue cycle analyst, or billing supervisor.
