Faiza Mohiuddin
PharmD Candidate, 2025
|
My name is Faiza Mohiuddin and I am a St. John’s University Student currently enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program. My passion for chemistry and biology stemmed from my hobby of art. I love drawing humans and my dedication to getting better at this fueled my curiosity about the anatomy of human beings and how each part of the human body functioned. This led to my interest in how different medications could affect the human body and that was when I knew the practice of pharmacy was the path for me. Beyond the use of medication, pharmacists do more than dispensing medication. They talk to patients with compassion and empathy and always have to continuously learn as the field of science ever evolves. It lines with my values of learning, community, and service. My goal is to be a pharmacist who will understand people better while playing a more active role in the lives of my patients than just offering the right treatment. The vision that I have for the future of pharmacy practice is a healthier future with pharmacists working together to continue developing more effective and affordable medications. I will be a part of that vision as a dedicated student who can learn, grow, and use the knowledge attained to aid people in improving their health and well-being. For me, pharmacy is a path in which I can explore my interests and continue learning more about the world inside us. It challenges me to always learn and encourages me to serve.
1) Within the next five years, I will take over at least one leadership position in the Industry Pharmacists organization at St John’s University to develop my management and teamwork skills. To achieve this goal, I will join a pharmacist organization in St. John’s such as the Industry Pharmacy Student Organization.
2) Within ten years, I will be a research and development pharmacist in a pharmaceutical company like Pfizer, specifically for drug innovation and creation. To achieve this I will gain industry experience by applying for an internship at Pfizer and develop expertise in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
3) Within fifteen years, I will reach a leadership position in a pharmaceutical company, such as Pfizer, and oversee drug development projects. To pursue this goal, I’ll acquire the qualifications I need to reach this position, build a strong network, and contribute to advancements in medicine.

Last year, I wrote that a pharmacist was a healthcare professional who served all regardless of our differences. People are supposed to be their number one priority. I don’t disagree with that. However, now I want to add more to what a pharmacist is. They have to get to know patients and comfort them. They are to be compassionate, and generous and always strive to learn more so they can hone their skills. My motivation for choosing the pharmacy program had been rather simple too. I just wanted to make something of myself, learn more, and impact the world in some way. That also hasn’t changed. If there was anything else it’d be my peers I’ve met along the way. Their motivation and the way they strive to become pharmacists inspire me to try harder. The benefits from the program were the primary reason why I had decided upon St. John’s University to pursue pharmacy. My parents, upperclassmen in high school, and guidance counselor had all told me of the program. The program lasting six years and not having to apply for pharmacy school makes the path to becoming a pharmacist shorter for me and far cheaper. I’m eternally grateful for those benefits but even more so for all the wonderful professors who have taught me here at St. John’s. Each of their lessons has impacted me in the way I see the field and I’m only ever so motivated to continue down this path.
My top five strengths were empathy, deliberative, consistency, developer, and includer. I was not surprised with most of my strengths since I do love to talk to people and carefully maintain my relationships with them. I find deliberative a little surprising since I’ve always felt inadequate regarding that area but I am glad the test thought otherwise. Seeing that these are my strengths I should pursue work that makes me connect with people, manage them, and work with teams.
