Goals (Personal & Professional)

Personal Goals

Having emerged from two decades of active addiction, the journey to sobriety has been transformative. With two years of sobriety now under your belt, the personal goal is to continue nurturing this newfound life of recovery. The aim is to maintain and strengthen personal resilience and self-awareness, which are crucial components in sustaining long-term sobriety. This involves engaging in continuous self-improvement practices such as mindfulness, therapy, and community support groups that reinforce the principles of recovery.

The pursuit of an associate degree in substance abuse counseling by October 2025 marks a significant milestone in this personal journey. It represents not only an academic achievement but also a testament to personal growth and commitment to change. Beyond this, there is a desire to further education by obtaining a bachelor's degree and eventually a master's degree in the field. These educational aspirations are fueled by a passion for understanding addiction more deeply and using that knowledge to aid others on their paths to recovery.

Professional Goals

Professionally, the goal is to establish a career that embodies your passion for helping others overcome addiction. The objective is to work as a substance abuse counselor where you can utilize both lived experience and academic knowledge to make a tangible difference in people's lives. This career path is driven by the belief that no one is hopeless and that everyone possesses intrinsic worth.

The professional aspiration extends beyond individual counseling; it includes advocating for systemic changes within communities and institutions that support recovery efforts. By demonstrating through action that recovery is possible with the right tools, you aim to inspire hope and empower individuals struggling with addiction. Ultimately, the goal is not just about providing support but also about fostering environments where people feel valued and understood.

In achieving these professional goals, there will be opportunities for continuous learning and development, ensuring that your skills remain relevant and impactful in addressing the evolving challenges associated with substance abuse.

Objective Statement: To utilize my lived experience in recovery and ongoing education in Substance Abuse Counseling while fostering resilience and empowerment among individuals seeking support.

Professional Summary

As a dedicated individual with over two decades of personal experience in overcoming opioid, heroin, and fentanyl addiction, I am committed to leveraging my journey of recovery to inspire and support others. With two years of sobriety, I am actively rebuilding my life after experiencing significant losses due to addiction. My personal history includes being dual diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, PTSD, severe depression, and severe anxiety. These challenges have been compounded by childhood trauma, which has informed my understanding of the complexities involved in mental health and substance abuse.

I have come to realize that maintaining medication compliance is crucial for preventing relapse and avoiding self-medication. This insight drives my belief that no one is a lost cause, regardless of how hopeless they may feel. Everyone possesses inherent worth, and change is possible with the right tools and support systems. My mission is to convey that life can be significantly improved through the journey of sobriety.

I advocate for patience in recovery; just as one's life isn't destroyed overnight, it cannot be rebuilt instantly. After surviving four overdoses and receiving six doses of Narcan, I have discovered my purpose and passion in life: to fight daily for my sobriety and help others see their own worthiness in this battle.

Personal Philosophy

My philosophy centers on the belief that everyone deserves a chance at redemption and recovery. Life on a sobriety journey is challenging but rewarding; it requires daily commitment but offers profound transformation. Through patience, perseverance, and proper guidance, anyone can rebuild their life into something meaningful.
