I am a hard working adult student. I am born and raised in West Virginia. My heart bleeds blue and gold. I have had a deep passion for helping others for as long as I can remember. I always referred to myself as "the helper". My empathy has been noted by numerous people. I am finishing up my second year at Bryant & Stratton College, earning my bachelor's in Human and Social Services. My career goal is to become a LSW and beyond.
HUSS 440:
Managing Human Service DeliveryIn HUSS 440: Managing Human Service Delivery, I completed the Managing Human Service Delivery Systems assessment. This project helped me understand how human service agencies are structured and how internal operations, funding requirements, staff roles, community partnerships, and service-delivery models affect the populations they serve. I examined how changing community needs, demographics, economic conditions, policy expectations, and available resources require agencies to adjust their programs and care methods. The assessment strengthened my ability to view human services from an organizational and systems perspective rather than focusing only on individual client needs. In a real-world human services setting, this knowledge supports effective care coordination, appropriate referral practices, interagency collaboration, program improvement, and responsive services for diverse individuals, families, and communities. Human Services professionals work to improve the accessibility, accountability, coordination, and quality of service-delivery systems, making these management skills directly relevant to professional practice.
SOSC 301:
Interpersonal Relations and Group Dynamics
Multicultural Awareness ProjectIn SOSC 301: Interpersonal Relations and Group Dynamics, I completed the Multicultural Awareness Project. This project increased my understanding of how culture, identity, communication styles, values, and lived experiences can influence relationships and group interactions. I examined the importance of recognizing differences respectfully and avoiding assumptions when working with people from diverse backgrounds. The assignment also helped me understand how inclusion and a sense of belonging can affect participation, collaboration, and well-being in academic, social, and workplace settings. In a human services workplace, this knowledge supports culturally responsive communication, respectful teamwork, stronger client relationships, and advocacy for inclusive, accessible services for people with diverse backgrounds and needs.
SOSC 115:
Career Development I: Theory and Practice
In SOSC 115: Career Development I: Theory and Practice, I completed the Formal and Informal Learning Reflection. This assignment helped me recognize how learning occurs through both structured academic experiences and everyday life experiences, including work, family, community involvement, and personal challenges. I reflected on the knowledge, skills, and behaviors I had already developed and connected them to new information about career planning, professional growth, and goal setting. The project strengthened my ability to identify transferable skills, such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and self-awareness. In a human services workplace, these skills help me apply what I've learned to new situations, adapt to client and agency needs, seek feedback, and continue developing professionally.
HUSS 355:
Social Program DevelopmentIn HUSS 355: Social Program Development, I completed a Community Needs Assessment and Program Proposal that required me to identify a community concern, analyze the needs of the affected population, review available resources, and propose a program response. I considered how goals, objectives, activities, staffing, funding, and evaluation measures should work together to address an identified problem. This assessment strengthened my ability to think systematically about service development and accountability. In a human services workplace, I can apply these skills to program planning, grant development, resource allocation, needs assessments, community outreach, and outcome evaluation. They also help ensure that services are based on actual community needs and can be adjusted when results show improvement is needed.
MATH 309:
StatisticsIn MATH 309: Statistics, I completed a Statistical Data Analysis Project that required me to interpret data, identify patterns, use quantitative reasoning, and draw conclusions from numerical information. The assessment helped me understand how data can support decisions rather than relying solely on opinions or anecdotal experiences. I developed skills in interpreting measures, comparing results, and assessing whether conclusions are supported by the available information. In a human services setting, quantitative reasoning helps review agency outcomes, evaluate program effectiveness, identify community trends, track service utilization, and make evidence-informed decisions about resources and interventions.
HUSS 450:
Public Policy and Social AdvocacyIn HUSS 450: Public Policy and Social Advocacy, I completed a Social Policy Advocacy Action Plan that connected an individual or community problem to broader systems and public policies. The project required me to research a social issue, identify how policy affects people’s access to services and opportunities, and develop an advocacy strategy. I considered actions such as educating others, collaborating with community organizations, communicating with policymakers, and promoting public awareness. This assessment strengthened my understanding that human services professionals can support change at the individual, community, and systems levels. In the workplace, these skills help me recognize structural barriers, advocate for fair policies, support client empowerment, and participate in collaborative efforts that improve social conditions
PHIL 222:
Ethics in Health and Human ServicesIn PHIL 222: Ethics in Health and Human Services, I completed an Ethical Decision-Making Case Study involving professional responsibilities, client rights, confidentiality, boundaries, and ethical problem-solving. This assessment required me to consider how a decision could affect the client, the agency, coworkers, and the community. I learned to use ethical principles and professional standards to guide decisions rather than relying solely on personal opinions. The assignment strengthened my understanding of respect, dignity, self-determination, privacy, cultural humility, and accountability. In the workplace, these competencies are essential for maintaining client trust, protecting confidential information, documenting responsibly, setting appropriate boundaries, consulting supervisors, and providing ethical, client-centered services.
ENGL 302:
Advanced Research and WritingIn ENGL 302: Advanced Research and Writing, I completed a Research-Based Argument Paper that required me to identify a research question, locate credible sources, evaluate the quality of available information, and communicate my findings in a clear written format. I used library databases and other technology resources to find scholarly and reliable information, distinguish credible evidence from unsupported claims, and document sources appropriately. This assessment strengthened my ability to organize evidence, write professionally, and communicate a well-supported conclusion. In a human services workplace, these skills support evidence-based practice, client education, case documentation, grant writing, program reports, and communication with supervisors, agencies, and community partners.
PHIL 310;
Logic and ReasoningIn PHIL 310: Logic and Reasoning, I completed a Critical Thinking Analysis that required me to identify assumptions, evaluate evidence, recognize logical fallacies, and form conclusions based on sound reasoning. This project strengthened my ability to slow down and examine how I make decisions, rather than relying solely on personal beliefs or first impressions. I also learned the importance of considering alternative viewpoints and revising my thinking when evidence does not support an initial conclusion. In a human services workplace, these skills are necessary for ethical decision-making, case assessment, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and evaluating whether an intervention or service plan is effectively meeting a client’s needs.
