My Bio: Carolina Mathews
MY BIOGRAPHY

Hi! My name is Carolina Mathews and I have worked in the medical field since 2006. I have experience from office manager in a doctor’s office to AR follow-up for 12 hospitals. I have worked directly with patients, insurance carriers including CMS and Tricare, and physicians.

I currently work remotely for a company who has training available to extend my knowledge concerning the revenue reimbursement for hospitals and physicians.

I am also a full-time student and in my last semester at Bryant and Stratton. I will be graduating in august of this year with my Associates of Arts degree in Medical Coding and Reimbursement. I plan on taking my CCA and CCS exams within the next couple of months and with my studies, I expect to achieve the related licenses at that time.

I have a diverse background in the medical field and hope to utilize and grow it for many more years to come.

E/M Guidelines Review Evaluation and Management
• Evaluate E/M codes assigned to patient encounters in health records for accuracy and make any necessary corrections. • Abstract and apply basic coding principles regarding abbreviation, punctuation, symbols, and other coding conventions used in E/M coding. • Demonstrate competency to assemble, process, maintain, store, abstract, analyze, index and retrieve health information data. • Information Literacy and Communication - Utilize current technology and resources to locate and evaluate information needed to accomplish a goal, and then communicate findings in visual, written and/or oral formats. • Relational Learning - Transfer knowledge, skills, and behaviors acquired through formal and informal learning and life experiences to new situations. • Thinking Abilities - Employ strategies for reflection on learning and practice in order to adjust learning processes for continual improvement. • Community and Career - Participate in social, academic, and professional communities for individual growth and to function as a citizen of a multicultural world. • Quantitative and Scientific Reasoning - Follow established methods of inquiry and mathematical reasoning to form conclusions and make decisions. Scenario Imagine that you are the new coding supervisor at a multi-physician practice. There are not enough coders to keep up with the amount of coding the practice is generating daily. The budget will not allow the practice to hire any new coders. You opt to cross-train some of the front office staff to help with some of the simpler coding issues. This plan of action will reduce the amount of work the coding staff endures daily and save the practice money. You decide to prepare an in-service Health Record Audit Training Document for the front office staff to teach and train them how to assign E/M codes. View
