My Bio: Alexander Almache
My Mission
My name is Alexander Almache. I was born and raised in Franklin Square, New York. Currently, I'm a second year student at St. John’s University Doctor of Pharmacy program, graduating in the class of 2028. As a pharmacist, I believe it is very important to have specific characteristics in order to impact your community in a positive way. Great communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are traits that I have always demonstrated throughout my academic, sport, and social life. Growing up, I’ve had a deep interest in the sciences, especially chemistry and biology. Learning about how the body functions and how it can be affected by various medications has always fascinated me. I understand entering my first professional year is going to be challenging but I’m excited to continue studying the wide spectrum of drugs that are so essential for healthcare. Dispensing a medication can improve someone’s physical and mental health. My experience as a junior firefighter has taught me the importance of having good relationships with people so I’ll be prepared to work with others in a pharmacy setting. Additionally, I’ve been working at my local pharmacy as a technician for the past year so I’m already gaining experience in a real-world setting. I believe that a pharmacist’s mission should be to provide safe, high quality patient care in an atmosphere of professionalism, respect, and effective communication.

My First Year Reflection

My inspiration to pursue pharmacy is my sister’s Vitiligo. She has monthly checkups and needs different prescriptions from the pharmacy which is very essential for her skin health. I would like to influence other people’s lives in a positive way. I love the idea of aiding such a large metropolitan area and St. John’s offers more than 160 affiliated clinical pharmacy sites throughout the New York area. Distributing a medication can change someone’s physical and mental health. Another reason why I chose St. John’s is it has one of the best ranked pharmacy programs in New York. It is very comforting knowing I can be lead in the right direction but also be challenged along the way. My experience as a junior firefighter has taught me the importance of having good relationships with people so I’ll be prepared to work with my coworkers and classmates in real world pharmacy settings.

My Top 5 Strengths
My five strengths are restorative, responsibility, context, competition, and analytical. It was surprising to find out how well and accurate my strengths were to me as a person. These strength finders serve as a great basis for understanding more about my self and where I currently stand. I definitely value the competition strength the most because that is what drives me to perform to the best of my ability. In that sense I plan to use these strengths to continue to develop myself and accomplish my future goals.
