Who is Kwaku Frimpong-Boateng?

Kwaku Frimpong-Boateng, M.Sc., BA., OT/s is a student of occupational therapy at Western New England University. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology & Political Science (2004) and earned a Master of Science degree in Public Policy & Human Development from Maastricht University (2010). Kwaku has worked as a teacher and journalist in Ghana (2004-2007). He is an active member of the Students Occupational Therapy Association of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)

Kwaku Frimpong-Boateng is currently studying for his entry-level doctoral degree in occupational therapy and also working as a mental health worker with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital where he provides direct care services to patients with mental health challenges in an in-patient psychiatric setting.

In his spare moments, Kwaku enjoys reading, listening to news, spending time with the family, watching sports/games on TV, working-out at the fitness center and engaging in discussions on current affairs issues with friends. Transparency, trustworthiness, integrity and proclivity for hard work are his values in life.

The relationship between nursing staff level of education/training and patients’ agitation that leads to restraints and/or seclusions in inpatient psychiatric hospitals

  • Conducted literature review on episodes of restraints in inpatient psychiatric facilities and mental health staff’s attitude on their patients.
  • Conducted interviews with mental health staff in an inpatient psychiatric hospital to find out their understanding of mental health and its effects on their job
  • Conducted coding under different themes of the transcribed interviews.
  • Compiled & analyzed the results of the interviews.
