Write Reflection Here:: REFLECTION FOR IPPE INSTITUTIONAL ROTATION Part Two Having been born in a family of medics, I wanted to venture into this field and use my skills to help society. I dreamt of becoming a community pharmacist after school. However, my goals have changed ever since I had this experience. I chose to follow my wife's path, become a pharmacy nurse consultant, and use my expertise and knowledge to enlighten clients on their illnesses, ensure they comply with treatment plans, and draw out meaningful information from patients during causal interaction. I choose to change my career goals to the pharmacy nurse specialty to rectify the situation at many health facilities and interact more with patients of various backgrounds and conditions. The experience of seeing patients make poor decisions on drugs and going for cheaper ones largely affected the change in my career goals. I want to be helping such patients settle on the best decision and ensure they do not gamble with their lives. I also realized most patients did not have information on their conditions. They were only diagnosed and prescribed the drugs to purchase. This experience also made me want to specialize in educating patients on their conditions and diseases.

IPPE Institutional Rotation Reflection Part 1
Date: 09/20/2021
Rotation Type: Wor/Man IPPE Institutional

Write Reflection Here:: REFLECTION FOR IPPE INSTITUTIONAL ROTATION Part One Description The most notable IPPE institutional event that saw me most engaged was when my preceptor at SOPS gave me a chance to go and experience how pharmacist works collaboratively with doctors and nurses at the hospital for a week since my site was solely industrial. I observed and actively participated in pharmacy operations and distribution systems, clinical application, and medication safety even though that was like what I started a week ago at my actual site SOPS but the only different was patients' involvement on admission at the hospital settings. The event entailed nursing students being guided in a local health facility and exposed to a pharmacy practice experience. We were allowed to ask questions and take part in some of the practices of interest to us. I choose to help and engage in drug distribution, where we would prescribe appropriate medication to patients depending on their conditions and educate them on the side effects and the best way to use the drugs. The main challenge was that nearly half of my clients were alcoholics, forcing them to find alternative drugs that best suited them. Feelings The event gave me a practical experience with patients and real-life nursing situations. I came across patients with different conditions, and it made me realize how my services can help many people. It gave me an emphatic feeling and a feeling of sorrow. Some patients choose to take a cheaper medicine with lower efficacy due to their financial constraints and unemployment. Evaluation The experiences made me choose to specialize in nursing pharmacy, where I would be interacting with more patients in the future. I want to be giving my patients the best advice possible and ensure they make the best decisions about their health. The experience also reflected class modules and helped me understand the situation of patients practically. I am ready to apply my knowledge and skills in educating the public on the best way to manage their conditions and choosing the best and affordable insurance to ensure they do not find themselves in a situation where they will have to compromise their health because of costs of medication. Analysis The feeling I have is because of the situation I saw at the health facility, and those uninsured patients were willing to take a medication that had lower efficacy because of their financial status and worrying they would not afford the medication. I also developed this feeling simply because I am a person that puts humanity first and prioritizes people's health over anything else. I do not think society should let patients struggle with a lack of knowledge and fail to receive the best medication when we can step in and help. Conclusion/Action Based on my experience, I plan to specialize in nursing pharmacy. I also intend to spend most of my time educating and giving patients the best therapeutic plan that aligns with their needs. I also plan to talk to my friends and use any chance to educate those around me about being insured and living a healthy life that will not complicate their medication.

IPPE Community Rotation Reflection Part 2

Write Reflection Here:: IPPE Community Rotation Reflection Part 2 My rotation experience over the last four weeks has been educational. Working at CVS pharmacy has had a notable influence on my practice experience. Notably, CVS is one of the leading pharmacies. Over the last four weeks, I have had the privilege of working alongside experienced professionals who were helpful. After this experience, my career goals have changed significantly. Initially, I was planning on working in a hospital pharmacy to work with care teams. However, working in the retail pharmacy setting changed my career plan significantly. I noticed that working in this setting allowed me to interact with patients often. As a result, I realized that working in a retail pharmacy could help me identify gaps in the current healthcare system. The previously mentioned case was an indicator that patient education on controlled medications is lacking; thus, I realized that through extensive interactions with patients in retail settings, I could help them with such information. Another reason that made me change my career plan was a patient who exhibited minimal adherence to medications. As a result, her health was deteriorating rapidly. Nonetheless, after interacting with her on several occasions and educating her about the medications, her adherence to treatment improved significantly.

Write Reflection Here:: IPPE Community Rotation Reflection Part 1 Description of the Event About two weeks ago, an elderly male walked into a CVS pharmacy store where I am currently undertaking my IPPE rotation and requested an oxycodone prescription. The patient claimed that he had been diagnosed with osteoarthritis a few years ago and that a physician had recently prescribed oxycodone to help with the management of the severe joint pain that he was experiencing. However, he did not have the prescription note; hence, I declined his request and asked him to bring the prescription note. The patient was incensed and stormed out of the store, yelling that he would sue the pharmacy store for denying him an essential service. Feelings During this event, I felt shocked, especially by the patient's claim that he would sue the drugstore for denying him services. Even more perplexing was the patient's expectation that he would obtain the medications without a prescription note. Arguably, opioids are regulated as controlled substances; hence, they cannot be dispensed like over-the-counter medications. As a patient who has had a prolonged history of osteoarthritis, as he claimed, I expected the patient to possess such knowledge. Evaluation The event had a positive influence on my pharmacy practice experience. Fundamentally, prior to this event, I had not encountered such clients. While I was shocked, the incident taught me that I had to be prepared to deal with such patients who expect pharmacists to violate the standard operating procedures to satisfy their needs. Therefore, I saw the event as a learning opportunity rather than a challenge. Analysis I felt that this event presented a learning opportunity as opposed to a challenge since it taught me the importance of strictly adhering to the standard operating procedures. At first, I felt that I might have disrespected the patient since he was a senior citizen. However, later on, I felt that the decision I made was right since the patient could have been exploiting his condition for his benefit. Opioid addiction has emerged as a serious public health problem in the country; thus, regulating how these medications are dispensed is critical to mitigating their misuse. Conclusion In the future, I plan to adhere to the standard operating procedures to avoid situations that could compromise my practice license and that of my employer in the future. Additionally, I plan to remain vigilant in the future to identify patients who might expect me to violate the standard procedures for their benefit.
