What as the most valuable learning experience on this IPPE rotation? Why? (Maximum of 250 words): | The most valuable learning experience on this IPPE rotation was being able to use my newly developed immunization skills and put them to use. In addition, I was able to make and receive doctor calls which I had never done before. I found this very valuable as it gave me a stronger sense of the role that a pharmacist can play in patient care. This included scenarios such as finding SIG and quantity errors, possible drug interactions/adverse effects, etc. |
How did this IPPE help you grow as a professional (Maximum of 250 words)?: | This IPPE helped me grow as a professional as it allowed me to begin using more of a clinical mindset as opposed to strictly technician work. I used my knowledge of patient care and pharmacy thus far to collaborate with patients, insurance, and prescribers. |

What as the most valuable learning experience on this IPPE rotation? Why? (Maximum of 250 words): | The most valuable learning experience was being able to attend rounds in the morning and get an overview on what the medical team is doing and their assessment of patients followed by taking medication histories of newly admitted patients and then working up a SOAP note for one of the patient cases. This helped me assess each patient from the pharmacist perspective and assess the patient's history as well as current chief complaint to develop a medication plan for inpatient and outpatient. |
How did this IPPE help you grow as a professional (Maximum of 250 words)?: | This IPPE helped me grow as a professional by allowing me to build and develop my clinical knowledge, especially in cardiology. I was able to work up patient cases and address the chief complaint as well as other comorbid conditions such as CKD, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, etc. By working on these patient cases, I was able to take into consideration lab values, risk factors/history, bleeding risk, stroke risk, inappropriate medication use, vitals, etc to assess the patient as a whole. By assessing each aspect of the patient case, I was able to practice assessing first and second line therapies given the bigger picture at hand. |

What as the most valuable learning experience on this IPPE rotation? Why? (Maximum of 250 words): | The most valuable learning experience on this rotation was being able to see other tasks that a pharmacy must take on including managerial tasks and how viewing the pharmacy as a business model affects your thought process as a pharmacist. I was able to understand programs like syncing prescription pick up dates and other programs more in depth and with a more manager-like mindset. This strengthened my ability to put together my business and pharmacy skills in the workplace. |
How did this IPPE help you grow as a professional (Maximum of 250 words)?: | This IPPE rotation helped me grow my business and manager skills. By looking at patient information, inventory, prescriptions, etc with a new lense, I was able to make newly informed choices on patient care and how these decisions affect the pharmacy as a business. |

What as the most valuable learning experience on this IPPE rotation? Why? (Maximum of 250 words): | The most valuable learning experience on this IPPE rotation was the opportunity to handle a more diverse patient base than I have handled at both work and previous rotations. The population on this rotation was high Medicaid and spanish-speaking etc. This allowed me to handle day-to-day activities differently such as patient interactions, billing, etc. This was valuable because I learned a lot about the intricacies of Medicaid in the pharmacy. |
How did this IPPE help you grow as a professional (Maximum of 250 words)?: | This IPPE helped me grow as a professional by diversifying my experience as a pharmacist. I work in a pre-dominately white, middle to upper class neighborhood and this IPPE gave me the opportunity to see patient cases that are unique to my past experiences. In addition, I was able to see how much of a difference it makes to put information such as numerical numbers rather than written numbers in the directions for non-english patients. This has allowed me to use the knowledge I have accumulated in class and actually see it in action at the pharmacy. |

Hello! My name is Emily Bui and I am a P3 student at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. I spent 2 years as an undergraduate at UB as well, completing the 2+4 Early Assurance program. During my time at UB, I organized the 2022 Annual Halfway Charity gala and served in many positions in organizations such as SASP and SCCP. Right now my goal is to pursue specialty pharmacy and/or fellowship. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends at the beach, biking, hiking, and long car rides with good music!
