Since 2019, I conducted basic research in the fields of medicinal chemistry and behavioral pharmacology as an undergraduate and pharmacy student. During the summer of 2021, I was the recipient of the University of Mississippi STEM Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (STEMS REU) fellowship which allowed me to conduct research at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy in Gainesville, Florida. In the fall, I gave a short lecture at the University of Mississippi STEMS REU Symposium to present my findings and a poster presentation in the UM School of Pharmacy that was awarded first place. This research was the topic of my honors thesis in pharmaceutical sciences. I am also a co-author on two manuscripts in preparation titled, "Identification of Anti-nociceptive activity and Brain Penetration by Difluoromethyl Ketone-based Ligands for the GABA-B Receptor" and "Stability Studies of β-Amino- and β-Hydroxy Difluoromethyl Ketones in Rat Serum and Rat Liver Microsomes" that we intend to submit to peer-reviewed scientific journals. These achievements coupled with my involvement in professional pharmacy societies earned me the Eli Lilly and Company Award for Leadership.
During the summer of 2022, I was awarded the nationally competitive inpatient summer pharmacy intern position, for first-year student pharmacists, at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in Nashville, Tennessee. This opportunity allowed me to experience the operational, clinical, and research aspects of inpatient pharmacy practice. My final internship project consisted of a medication evaluation of hypoglycemia management instructions within the insulin infusion orderset for administration of intravenous dextrose following hypoglycemic events. This project led to the development of three recommendations that I presented to the VUMC Diabetes and Glycemic Oversight Pharmacy Therapeutics and Diagnostics Subcommittee. Two of the recommendations led to protocol change. It was during this internship that my passion for the role that pharmacists play on the interdisciplinary team to advocate for patients and optimize their care was sparked.
More recently, I had the honor of completing another nationally competitive summer pharmacy internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While there, I gave a professional development presentation titled "Networking: The Small World of Pharmacy", worked on five quality improvement projects, and wrote an article for the Mayo Clinic's Medication Management Services Newsletter. I also had the opportunity to engage in ten mini-rotations within my areas of interest. This internship helped me realize my passion for working with the immunosuppressed patient population, reassuring me of my post-graduate plans. After graduation, I anticipate applying to PGY1 and PGY2 residency programs. My current career goal is to become a clinical pharmacist and practice in a major medical center where I can teach and contribute to translational research in organ transplantation.

Specific - My current personal goal is to build healthy habits that will improve my overall physical health. This includes drinking at least 70 fl oz (4-5 water bottles) per day, eating a balanced diet that is around 2000 calories per day, and exercising for at least 30 minutes, 3 times per week.
Measurable - This goal is measurable through the amount of water I drink, the amount and type of food that I eat, and the exercise that I am getting.
Achievable – I started using the MyNetDiary app to track my water and food intake as well as exercise. By holding myself accountable, I believe that this goal becomes more attainable for me.
Relevant - As someone who is very involved, it’s important for me to take a step back and spend more time on myself. My physical health is something that I need to move up on my priority list.
Time-Bound - I would like to get into this routine by the time I start APPEs (5/1/24).
Specific - My current professional goal is to present a research poster at a national conference.
Measurable - This goal is measurable as it is a yes/no regarding whether I am successful in presenting a poster or not.
Achievable - I am attending Kappa Psi's Grand Council Convention in Cleveland, Ohio this summer. This is one of many opportunities that I will have to present a poster at a national conference.
Relevant - Participating in a national poster session will fill a gap that currently exists in my CV. Also, this is something that I have wanted to do since P2 year. It's time to finally go for it!
Time-Bound - I would like to reach this goal prior to applying to residency programs in the fall.
