Field Experience Summary
Prompt #1:
Working with professional school counselors for levels K-12 has given me the chance to comfortably explore each setting. This has given me the opportunity to work with all student ages, diversities, and backgrounds. I have learned that you have to have different academic goals in each setting.
Prompt #2:
If I am working with a student and know they are a believer I am able to incorporate their faith into a teaching moment. This helps instill hope and helps them to understand things from a spiritual perspective.
Prompt #3
I have definitely learned that parents are more involved at the lower levels. Later on, the parents become more involved as their students begin to discuss college. I've learned that you have to respect parent's wishes as you advocate for your students.
Prompt #4
My field experience has taught me so much more than a text book. I have made connections with people that I will be able to use as a resource. Putting myself into the school setting has helped bring the definition of a school counselor to life. I've loved every "hour" of it.
