My Bio: Brandon Lewis-Peters
Biography of Brandon Lewis-Peters

Brandon Lewis-Peters was born in the humble Ozarks of the Midwest, on August 2, 1985. Growing up in a region known for its natural beauty, Brandon faced challenges that fueled his passion for helping others.

From a young age, Brandon experienced firsthand the impact of limited access to healthcare. Raised in a household where health insurance coverage was sporadic. This lack of coverage especially in terms of dental care had major effects on how Brandon saw the disparages in healthcare coverage in the United States. Brandon is motivated by a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

As Brandon lived life and continued his life’s journey, he found love and built a family with his husband. Together, they embraced the joy of parenthood, welcoming three children into their lives. Despite the unique paths that brought them together, Brandon and his husband emphasize the importance of equality and love in their family.

As a professional Brandon and his husband embarked on an entrepreneurial venture, establishing a janitorial company focused on servicing commercial accounts. This endeavor not only provided a livelihood but also granted Brandon the flexibility to pursue his educational aspirations.

With managing the responsibilities of a growing family, Brandon dedicated himself to online studies at Bryant & Stratton College. His journey led him to a profound interest in the field of medical coding and health information management. Recognizing the pivotal role of healthcare in maintaining and improving lives, Brandon was drawn to the meticulous work of medical coders.

Brandon recognizes the potential for positive change in the transformation of healthcare to cover and provide services for everyone. In a quest to contribute to the healthcare industry, he delved into the intricacies of medical coding and reimbursement. AI has brought advancements, but Brandon identified the nuanced understanding of diseases and their evolving nature as a crucial aspect that requires human expertise.

Being driven by a commitment to accuracy and completeness, Brandon envisions a future where competent medical coders play a pivotal role in shaping how well an organization can operate. This is based on the code selection, medical necessity, and payor requirements to meet coverage.  They also can identify the lack of documentation integrity which can affect litigation, government audits, and even lead to abuse of the Medicare system.

Having experienced firsthand the challenges of inadequate healthcare coverage during his upbringing, Brandon is on a mission to be the best medical coder possible. He believes that by excelling in this field, he can contribute to a more robust and accessible healthcare system. Brandon Lewis-Peters is not just pursuing a career; he is on a personal crusade to elevate the role of medical coders and ensure that everyone has the healthcare access they deserve. Through his journey from the Ozarks to entrepreneurship in Hawaii and now academia, Brandon is making a difference in the healthcare landscape, one code at a time.
