As I conclude my final month as a P1 student at LECOM, my professional identity has shifted from a theoretical focus to a practical, community-centered vision. This first year has provided a rigorous foundation in pharmacotherapy and clinical reasoning, but it has more importantly clarified my desire to serve as a frontline healthcare provider. I have focused on strengthening my communication skills and time management, ensuring I am prepared for the fast-paced demands of professional pharmacy practice.
My primary interest is firmly rooted in community pharmacy. I am specifically interested in the operational dynamics of major retail settings such as Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens. I value the accessibility of the community pharmacist and the opportunity to build direct, longitudinal relationships with patients. My goal is to master medication safety, efficient dispensing workflows, and patient counseling to improve medication adherence and chronic disease management within the community.
In the short term, my focus is on successfully completing my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. I have decided not to pursue post-graduate residency training, as I am eager to transition directly into the workforce. Over the next five years, I plan to secure an intern position within a retail pharmacy to gain fluency in pharmacy management systems and insurance navigation. Once I achieve licensure, I intend to establish myself as a competent, efficient staff pharmacist while developing leadership skills within a pharmacy team to enhance workflow and patient safety.
Looking ahead ten years, I aspire to transition into a leadership role, such as a pharmacy manager. I envision myself mentoring future pharmacy students and interns, passing on the practical knowledge I have gained. My long-term vision involves expanding the clinical footprint of community pharmacy through medication therapy management and immunization programs. I remain committed to lifelong learning, ensuring I stay adaptable and provide high-quality, evidence-based care in an evolving healthcare landscape.
