My name is Jenna Clayton and I am a P4 student at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy. I am originally from Middletown, NY, but I have been living in Buffalo for five years now and loving every minute of it! I love the strong sense of community here and how my work as a student pharmacist allows me to be a part of it. That being said, I’m currently employed at Parkview Health Services, a long-term care pharmacy, where I have the privilege of dispensing medications to those in assisted living facilities, group homes, and rehabilitation centers. This position has been especially rewarding during COVID times, as I was able to provide vaccinations to hundreds of patients.

            In addition to long-term care, my career interests include ambulatory care and community pharmacy because I love how these fields would allow me to have a direct positive impact on patients. I am mostly undecided, however, and am keeping my options open. With this in mind, I always look at each rotation as an opportunity to learn about a different area of practice!

I am a Co Chair for Operation Substance Use Disorders Patient Care Project, one of APhA's many philanthropies.

I enrolled in and completed APhA's medication therapy management course as well as participated in the live training to become certified to provide this service to patients.

Dr. Wroebel presented to us students about the different career paths that pharmacists can pursue within the managed care field. We learned about formulary development as well as prior authorizations. He also answered our questions about managed care residency programs and how to be a strong candidate.

Learned about the many roles of industry pharmacists from UB alum Joseph Twist, who has vast experience in pharma and who currently is employed by Novartis.

Educated patients about medication adherence as well as chronic disease states such as asthma and COPD. Assessed patient inhaler technique and counseled on the importance of using their maintenace inhaler regularly, even when they feel they don't need to.

Completed during the Fall 2020 semester. Created a business plan for a simulated community pharmacy who was in need of an extra revenue stream.

Attended on 9/30/20. Alumni currently employed at Pfizer, spoke about the path to becoming an industry pharmacist.

Attended conference on 3/2/21. UB Pharmacy's Dr. Gina Prescott and Mr. Franck Perraudin, Head of Global Health Partnerships and Alliances at Sanofi, discussed the biggest challenges raised by COVID-19 in France and the USA.
