During this candidate's doctoral licensure internship, the candidate has experienced a variety of roles that have increased their knowledge of education administration and supervision. The candidate has sat in on board, IEP, parent, and discipline meetings. The candidate is the vice chairman of the school improvement committee and has had significant exposure to various stakeholders throughout the district and community.
The candidate has experienced NELP Standard 1 by creating an information pamphlet for the school improvement committee to distribute to new parents. The pamphlet aims to help parents understand the school's vision, mission, and expectations. The candidate first met with the school improvement committee, in which the group determined one area of need that should be focused on: parent communication. The candidate agreed with the group and helped develop an informational pamphlet to help parents quickly know where to turn for assistance.
The candidate used ethics and professional norms by contacting the school resource officer immediately through verbal and email conversation. The officer confirmed the candidate's email and investigated the incident. The candidate complied with the district policy by notifying superiors immediately and operating ethically by being professional, confident, and acting according to policies.
For standards three and four, the candidate created a lesson for students on teamwork and the importance of diversity. Students worked together to balance a ball on a table to get from one location to another. Also, the candidate participated and was interviewed for the Cool School of the Month segment on the news. This candidate had the opportunity to teach and share all the great things happening in the school. While implementing these strategies in the classroom, the candidate worked with teachers on the adjustment of instructional methods to the varying abilities of pupils.
For competencies five, six, and seven, the candidate was an active participant in the Polar Plunge, also made a schedule for the assignment of special duties to faculty members who are members of the Boy's Club, and attended several grade-level department meetings. The candidates have observed within themselves that they have grown tremendously. The candidate learned patience when working with various stakeholders during the SIC meetings, and that consensus sometimes takes time. The candidate learned that being present is vital during the Polar Plunge; as an administrator, your presence matters. Also, the candidate learned that ethics and reporting are crucial. When a person encounters unethical behaviors, the witness must report the incident immediately, or one can be held liable. The candidate also learned the importance of attendance, taking ownership of projects, and the importance of delegation.

The fundamentals of leadership are a vital part of our society and can have encouraging or detrimental effects. As a human species, we are connected and interwoven with belief systems of morals and values that guide us through our journey in life. If our system is guided, interrupted, misguided, or distorted, this can affect the totality of our community or civilization. The ripple effect affects not only one nation but many.
During World War II, in the thick of the war, Adolf Hitler made an astounding quote: "The luck of the ruler, the people do not think" (Maxwell, 2009). Adolf Hitler's calculated and misguided leaders not only devastated the lives of the Jewish settlers by killing millions but also challenged the moral integrity and values of the German people. The German people were committing atrocities under patriotism.
Finding and reproducing good leadership in the modern world is extremely difficult. We've seen leaders in our society exploit their positions of power to incite chaos, which has made people in it fearful, reluctant, confused, and lacking in confidence. Social media and leadership have taught our culture's kids that assigning blame is preferable to accepting accountability for a single deed.
According to Lozano and Laurent (2019), Roman historian Titus Livius understood the methods of blame-shifting as a recurring circumstance. Even though frowned upon, blame-shifting occurs often. Individuals would instead point fingers and avoid being blamed or labeled a failure. Good leaders take responsibility and do not use their influence to incite violence, coax others to harm, or use nepotism.
As the administrator, it is imperative to understand that finding and developing a positive school climate and culture is vital for the totality of the school. Developing one will encourage all participants from all backgrounds to chime in. According to Nehez and Blossing (2020), school cultures can be revitalized and enhanced by joining all staff's efforts with collaboration, ideas, and support that create change and input value.
According to Flanagan (2020), a worldwide view is a system of integrative symbols, systems of beliefs, norms, and values that a group of people formulates to determine the customs of a particular culture. My personal, worldwide view on education leadership is centered on building a vibrant school where all students are free from implicit and explicit biases. A school should be where all students, regardless of race, religion, gender, or sex, can learn in our 21st-century world.
As an education leader, my worldwide view will enhance my skills and allow me to use intrinsic motivations to understand the world better. This candidate will learn from former leaders' past successes and failures by reading and utilizing their experiences and incorporating their thought processes in my decision-making. This candidate will read and observe leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Sir Thomas Moore, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr. and utilize the late great Larry King's listening skills to become a great listener and decision-maker.
