FOUNDATIONS
In order to demonstrate an example of my understanding of the standard of foundation in school counseling, I chose to use an ethical decision-making paper. In this paper, I analyze the ethical decision making of a school counselor. Also, this paper demonstrates my ability to adhere to ethical and legal standards that apply to school counselors. This paper also shows my ability, as a school counselor, to advocate for a school counselor to follow the proper code of ethics and standards in order to best help students.

DIVERSITY AND ADVOCACY
This assignment involved making a presentation that a school counselor would present to parents in their school district. It demonstrates my ability to use diversity and advocacy as a school counselor. In the presentation I talked about how it is important to have cultural trainings for school counselors and teachers within the school. This involved the planning of facilitating cultural events in the school that allow students to show their different cultural backgrounds. In this presentation, I discuss the importance of school counselors advocating for the needs of students that may feel like college is out of reach, students that have stress, anxiety, and students that have unmet needs at home or at school.

ASSESSMENT
In this assignment, I demonstrate my ability to analyze the effectiveness of assessments used by school counselors. I also talk about how the assessment could be more effective and diverse by using a larger and diverse sample size. It is important for school counselors to use data in the interventions that they use to help students, and this assignment shows my ability to do that.

Academic Development
This lesson in an example of my ability to help students with their academic development. In this lesson, I am teaching students how to set SMART goals to achieve their academic goals or any life goals. In the activity, the students could make a vision board to help them visualize their SMART goal that they set for themselves. For example, a student set a SMART goal to get a better grade in English class.

Practicum Culminating Project 1: Six session Small Group Program
During my practicum I implemented a six session worry group with kindergarten students. I consulted with my site supervisor, teachers, parents, and students and there was a need for this group at my site. These students were verry young and did not know what worrying was when I started the group. I created a safe space for these students to talk about and learn about the feeling of worry. A lot of the students had separation anxiety from their parents. I showed them coping skills, read books about worrying, explored drawing how they were feeling, and went over how to recognize this emotion. At the end of the group most of the students showed progress in coping with their worry.

Internship 1 Culminating Project 2: Classroom Guidance Lesson Unit
I implemented a classroom guidance unit at my internship site that addressed four different ideas with first grade students. I got the idea for these lessons from a needs assessment that was given to the first-grade teachers. The first lesson addressed listening, focusing, and the role of the school counselor in the school. The second lesson addressed positive self-talk. The third lesson addressed how to identify emotions in yourself, others, and zones of regulation. The fourth lesson addressed the golden rule and empathy. The students started every lesson with a mindfulness breathing exercise. My evaluation data showed that students had a better understanding of these concepts after my guidance unit ended.

Internship 2 Culminating Project 3: Six Session Small Group Program
I implemented a 6-session small group for 7th and 8th grade students. This group focused on addressing stress among these students. They learned about stress and learned different methods on how to manage it so it did not affect their attendance and performance at school. The students responded positively to the group and the data shows some of the group members showed improvement in their school attendance and less health office visits.

Field Experience Summary
Prompt #1
My time serving in both elementary and secondary schools as a school counselor has taught me a lot about the diverse development needs of these different age groups of students. My experience with elementary students was filled with helping students navigate different social emotion needs, separation anxiety from parents, learning how to make friends, and managing emotions. To a certain extent these needs are all still present in secondary but the majority of the focus as the school counselor in my experience goes to preparing students academically and for life after high school. This includes helping students schedule for classes, apply for college, military, trade school or entering directly into the workforce. I also would help student understand that it is important to advocate for themselves. I learned along the ways the elementary students learned from a more hands on approach in my classroom guidance lessons that I ran and the many different small groups that I helped implement. In the secondary level the students learned more from helping to show them how they can take responsibility for their own future success. This involved field trips to different colleges and trade schools and one on one conversation with the students. I created opportunities for diverse learners by helping ESL students follow along with lessons by having the learning materials in their first language. Also, I would make all students feel welcome in small groups and lessons by making it a safe place for all students.
Prompt #2
I have learned in my field experiences that it is important to have an understanding of all aspects of a student. This includes a student spiritual and religious beliefs. It is important that myself as the school counselor is not pushing my beliefs on the students. However, it is also not good to avoid talking about these topics because it could be an important aspect of the student's life. I try to make the student feel welcome and feel safe talking about all different aspects of their lives.
Prompt #3
My field experiences helped me to gain valuable knowledge on the importance of involving a student's family, community, and culture as a form of support. I learned that involving stakeholders in the planning and implementation of the school counselor curriculum can be a valuable way to gain knowledge of the local communities' needs and strengths. Also, learning about students' cultures helped me to better understand the students and their families so I could better help them when I was counseling them.
prompt #4
My field experiences have helped me to strengthen my professional identity as a school counselor. It has helped me become more confident in my abilities to counsel and advocate for students. I also feel more confident in advocating for the role of school counselors in the school. I have learned that a school counselor is so much more than just someone that helps students schedule for classes. The school counselor helps with every aspect of a student's education journey. This includes a student's social emotional, academic, and career needs and goals. I have also learned it is vital to collaborate with teachers, administrators, students, families, stakeholders, and other school counselors in order to help the students and school community as much as we can as school counselors.
