|
My name is Giovanni Troia and I am a PharmD Candidate for the class of 2029 at St. Johns University. I am an 18-year-old from Glen Cove, New York. I have 3 siblings, 2 younger brothers and an older sister. In my free time, I like to work out and do school work or work and make money. What led me to choose a career in pharmacy is the fact that I have a spine condition known as scoliosis. Being that I have that, whenever I am in pain I speak to my pharmacist and they prescribe a medicine that will help me. Whenever I would take this medicine I would feel a lot better which shows me how much a pharmacist makes an impact on my condition. This is what truly inspires me to become a pharmacist, to go out there and provide medicine to people who are also not feeling well. My vision for pharmacy practice is to learn how to properly distribute medications to patients and teach them how to properly take the medication. My goal is to finish the 6 years of Pharmacy school and to receive my Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. I will achieve this goal by putting in all the time and effort it takes to study and work to get good grades. Being a pharmacist is so important to me because pharmacists have had such an impact on my life and made my life better so I want to also have an impact on people's lives. - Being a pharmacist means that you are always there to counsel someone on how to use medications and not only that but to be there to support someone if they are going through a hard time and their health is being risked. Being a pharmacist means you like communicating with people. I chose pharmacy because I like to help people who are sick and I want to make an impact on not only the pharmaceutical industry but the world. I chose St. John's University because the campus is close to home, It is a Roman Catholic school, my father went there and the fact that they gave me a lot of scholarship money. I would say my top 5 strengths are Communication, Working hard, being futuristic, being innovative and being positive. What surprised me the most about my strengths is that I am a good communicator. This is because when I was a kid I was never really good at communicating and I was very quiet. I plan on utilizing my strengths by communicating good with my patients and co-workers, staying extra hours at school, or work if I have to and being a very positive person to my patients.
