This course covers the fundamental principles and methods of psychology, which is the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes. Students learn how to apply psychological theories and concepts in both personal and professional settings.
The goal of this course is to apply information, skills, and behaviours gained via formal and informal learning and life experiences to new circumstances. I achieved this goal by being introduced to many views and methodologies in psychology, including biological, cognitive, social, and developmental. I learned how to assess facts, think critically, and communicate effectively in psychology. |

In this course, I used relevant modern technology and resources to find and assess information needed to achieve a goal, and then conveyed my findings visually, in writing, and/or orally. Some of the actions that helped me reach my goal were:
Conducting internet research on issues about my professional interests and ambitions, using credible sources and databases,
talents, credentials, and accomplishments while tailoring them to various job applications. I created a portfolio that highlighted my work samples, projects, and accomplishments professionally and interestingly. Giving an oral presentation on my career plans, including effective communication skills and visual aids. Receiving comments from my instructor and classmates, then changing my work accordingly. |

These exercises helped me grow and strengthen my research, writing, and presenting abilities, as well as my professional preparedness and self-awareness. 240224055932_week_7_project_potfolio_Mrs._B.docx (._B) 0.03mb
- Course outcome: Demonstrate ethical and legal communication techniques specific to the human and social services environments.
Abnormal Psychology This course introduced me to the scientific study of mental disorders, their causes, diagnosis, and treatment. I learned about the major categories of psychopathology, such as anxiety, mood, personality, and psychotic disorders, and the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence them. I explored the ethical and cultural issues related to the assessment and treatment of mental illness, and how to apply critical thinking skills to evaluate psychological theories and evidence. I learned how to recognize and respond to the diverse service needs of people with different mental health conditions, and how to communicate with them in a respectful and empathetic way.
Course Outcome: Adapt essential communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors, peers, and the public in various human and social settings. |
- In this project, I had to reflect on my own biases and how they may influence my interactions with others. This demonstrated my ability to use self-awareness and self-regulation skills to monitor and adjust my own behaviour and communication style. You also have to show respect and empathy for the diversity and complexity of human and social settings, and how to adapt to different situations and challenges.
I posted this math project in human services because it shows how I can use my math skills to make informed decisions and solve real-world problems. By applying proportional reasoning to my budget, I demonstrated my ability to draw conclusions and make decisions based on quantitative information. This is a course outcome that is relevant for human services, as you may need to use math to manage resources, evaluate programs, or plan interventions. By transferring my knowledge and skills from my math class to my personal and professional situations, I also demonstrated relational learning, which is a program outcome that is essential for human services. Relational learning helps you adapt to new situations and challenges, and apply what you have learned to different contexts and domains. This project shows that I am a lifelong learner who can use math to improve my own and others’ lives.
