Doctor of Pharmacy Student Class of 2028 St. John's University

- Uncle Iroh
Although I would consider myself an open-minded person, I never would’ve been able to guess that I would end up at St. John’s University as a pharmacy student. I have always seen myself in different fields, such as engineering and architecture but never expected pharmacy. Pharmacy was never displayed as a mainstream career in my childhood, and frankly I didn’t even realize it was an option as a profession.. Nevertheless, pursuing pharmacy has opened a vast sea of knowledge to me and allows me to directly make a beneficial impact in society while exploring topics of interest for me. It has been one of the greatest and biggest life changing decisions for me.Pursuing pharmacy academically has led me to change jobs to become a pharmacy technician. All the tasks in my workplace, including consulting and filling prescriptions, feel so much more meaningful than my past workplace and continue to motivate me academically as well. Pharmacy has changed me as a person, teaching me the care and compassion that comes with taking care of one another and how important it is to be able to be able to help people in times of need. Health is non-negotiably one of the most important aspects of our life and it is necessary to preserve and nurture it. Even in my free time, I enjoy learning about the history of pharmacy and the world of apothecaries and how far we’ve come and how far we will continue to advance throughout my lifetime in this career.
I intend to stay as a pharmacy student with St. Johns for the next 6 years of my life. As I am a student, I also will try to set myself as an intern in a hospital. I am currently working in a CVS Pharmacy where I am a technician and plan on keeping that career until I am eligible to be an intern. I intend on focusing in school and trying to keep my grades as high as possible. I do not have any personal goals until I become an intern at the most. That is my only goal as of now.
Set goals from years (5-10)
As a current pharmacy student, I am also a current jiu jitsu student training in Royal Jiu Jitsu under Mateus Lutes. It is honestly difficult to go 5 days a week and have school work to study for and accomplish. I do seem to manage and have a dream to become a purple belt by the time I am a pharmacist. The estimated time to become a black belt will be about 12 years. In this decade, my main plan is to become a brown belt by the time I am at the end of the decade and plan on getting married after I become a pharmasict.
Long Term Goal Years (10-15)
As a long term goal, I want to open a few community pharmacies of my own hoping to open them with a partner and friend I make from this program. I want to have my own nice big home with my wife and want to be become a black belt in jiu jitsu. Getting a black belt, I want to compete in mainstream competitions hoping to win so that I can open my own gym one day under my name.

I recently started jiu jitsu and it has been a large part of my life. Last semester was very stressful and I did not have any other outdoor activities. I came straight home College and did not have anything to do. I would just do my homework and sit myself. During the semester, I did not have much friends and therefore did not have much to do. I considered joining a jiu jitsu gym my brother since he has been going for a while and said he enjoys it. After joining the gym, I have been disciplined to go every morning at 6 am. It was been a mental and physical turn around for me. I was able to make good friends and find a life outside of school. After getting my first win in the match, I was so happy to see my progress and see how far I have come. This is such a big accomplishment to see because of the pain and hard work I have been putting into the daily training. It shows that anything can be done if hard work is put into it.
Medicine has always run in my family whether it were a pharmacist or a doctor. It was never in the front of my mind however. I did not consider myself ending up here as a pharmacy student until just 2 months before applying to St. John's University. A lot has changed since then. I feel that I have become stronger and wiser mentally. After getting accepted into St. Johns, I really wanted to confirm if I wanted to pursue pharmacy as a life long career. I later left my old job and was hired at a CVS as a pharmacy technician. Working here, I was really able to understand the meaning of a pharmasict and how they help out the community in which medications is good for their health and consulting with them. I was new and did not know much. Working for two months, I was able to see that I wanted to pursue pharmacy. Seeing a happy customer after receiving their medications and seeing how the pharmasict consults with the patient, it seemed very interesting to me. St. John's was a top school for a pharmacy program and was close enough to me so that I did not have to dorm. I did regret any of my choices so far and I am happy for what I have accomplished.
My 5 Strengths
1. Strategic
2. Includer
3. Activator
4. Discipline
5. Relator
As a strategist, I am given the role of being talented in the way of finding creative alternative patterns to proceed. I am able to quickly see an issue and resolve it. Being given a strength such as includer, I am known to be accepting of others. I show awareness in who feels left out. As an activator, I like things to often happen quickly and I do not like waiting too long. Given the discipline strength, I am punctual to where I go and have a structure for everything. For my last strength, I am a relator in which I enjoy making close relationships with people, and enjoy working hard alongside with my partners. After reading all of these strengths over, I was not too surprised as it seemed like these fit me as my type of personality. Overall, I was happy to read these strengths and I completely agree with them as they will follow me throughout my career as a pharmacist. I was not surprised to see these strengths. they all seem like traits that suit me and I have been using them like hidden super powers that are finally unlocking. I wanna use these 5 strengths to excel in the program and make lifelong friends. I have a dream to have my own large businesses one day.
