PharmD Candidate, Class of 2028
St. John's University

I am a student who is studying to become a pharmacist. I am also a caring and logical person who loves reading books. I chose a career in pharmacy because I like learning about medicine. Moreover, pharmacists get to bond with their patients. In my vision, I become a counselor for patients and help them find ways to get better. One of my goals is to get a Ph.D. Although I don’t know how to get one, I hope that eventually, I can get an opportunity to get one before I start my career. Being a pharmacist is important to me because I want to change the world for the better. When I heal other people and make them feel better, they can comfortably do their jobs in the world as well.

In this course, we are learning the various structures of the human body and their functions.
PHS 2301 Biomedical Laboratory
In this lab, we conduct experiments similar to previous chemistry labs.
PHS 2201 Biochemistry
In biochemistry, we are learning both biology and chemistry. We are learning about the chemistry that takes place in living organisms. For example, there are metabolic pathways and enzymes.
PHI 2240 Ethics and Healthcare
In this course, we are learning healthcare ethics. This includes learning about moral issues in healthcare such as patient autonomy, informed consent, euthanasia, etc.

This is a course about public health. Public health is different from healthcare because it focuses on the health of the community as a whole. We learn about the history of public health around the world and some controversial issues surrounding public health.
This is the first biology course I've taken at this university. We studied genes, DNA, cell structure, etc. The beginning was easy for me, but the course became more difficult later on.
CHE-1130-0 Intro to Gen & Organic Chem III
We continue to learn organic chemistry, continuing from the chemistry course from last semester. We studied compounds such as amides, esters, aromatics, and hydrazines.
CHE 1132R-0
This is the review of the main chemistry course.
CHE 1131L-0
This is the chemistry lab.

In this course, we learn about the history of pharmacy, and how it has changed from the 1900s to modern times. Although pharmacy has traditionally been focused on making drugs, now it provides many services for patients.
CHE 1120 - Introduction to General and Organic Chemistry II
- This course is taught online. The professor uses a presentation to help with his lectures and occasionally asks us questions. I like this course because I don't have to walk to a classroom to take it.
CHE 1121L - Introduction to General and Organic Chemistry II Lab
- This is where we conduct experiments related to what we learned in the lectures. We did a lot of cool stuff. My favorite experiment was thin-layer chromatography.
CHE 1122R - Introduction to General and Organic Chemistry II Recitation
- This is where we recall what we have learned. This course is very helpful because if you didn't understand something from the lectures, you could understand it in recitation.

A van would take me and my peers to a facility in Brooklyn. There, we were given various jobs. I was given tasks to flatten cardboard boxes and assemble food bags. I didn't mind doing the work because it was quite easy, and the staff even gave us snacks when we were done.
A pharmacist is someone who researches medicine and drugs. A pharmacist can study bacteria or enzymes to make medicine to cure disease and illness and sell the drugs on the market. Many people in the world rely on the products created by pharmacists to maintain their well-being, therefore a pharmacist's work is essential to society.
There are a lot of job opportunities for someone who studied pharmacy in college. For example, in hospitals, many drugs and medicine the doctors use are created by pharmacists, so the pharmacy profession is valuable in the medical field. It is very profitable to be a pharmacist for a living.
I chose St. John's university because it is relatively near where I live so I don't have to travel very far to attend classes. Also, I am excited to meet new people at St John's university and curious to know what the experience of learning will be like.
