This course analyzes various moral problems in health care from theological perspectives. In addition to theology and philosophy, the course material engages the disciplines of medicine, law, politics, public policy, and global health. The nature of the course calls upon students to think constructively about some of the major debates in bioethics today: end of life care, maternal-fetal relations, genetics and human enhancements, research ethics, and health care access on local, national, and international scales.

RCT 1005C is a course about participating in the process of communication that emphasizes verbal and non-verbal communication theories and practices. The focus of the course is to understand the ways individuals shape, and are shaped, by their interactions in dyadic, group, and organizational settings. Ultimately, the goal of this course is to develop your theoretical understanding of human communication processes and to improve your interpersonal communication skills for pharmacist-patient interactions.

Literature in a Global Context, HON 2150C(71202)(Fall 2019)

This course will study works of literature from various cultures, times, genres and forms (lyric and epic poetry, short fiction, and drama). Our study will be centered on certain questions arising from the landscape of the soul—character, self-knowledge and destiny. That is, through reading, discussing, and writing, we shall look at some of the ways literary figures confront themselves as they make their way in the world (often reflected in a journey or a visit to a place). Along the way, we might discover how literature helps us attain knowledge of the human soul, and perhaps self-knowledge. In addition, we will look at operations of language in poetry, trying to understand word choices as well as definitions and etymologies

Philosophy of the Human Person, HON 1010C-0(Fall 2019)

This course serves as an introduction to Western philosophy and, in particular, to various conceptions of human nature. The following topics will be considered: What is philosophy? How is it related to science and religion, art and politics? Are we free? Do we have immortal souls? Are we really rational and what does it mean to be rational? The course will begin with the dialogues of Plato, then move on to medieval philosophy, and more recent discussions in the work of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud.

Why I chose Pharmacy

I chose the field of pharmacy because my life goal is to help others and I believe that becoming a pharmacist will provide me with the ability to fufill my goal. I am a very sympathetic person, therefore I truly care about helping each and every person who may be sufferring in some way shape or form. My mission

My mission is to help others, as it gives me a purpose in life.

I am seeking to learn, because learning is the key to changing the lives of others. I am seeking to understand, as understanding others is the key to bettering the lives of others. I hope to use my education to help me in accomplishing my life goal of being able to help others including family, friends, and society as a whole. I hope one day to teach my children to love and care for others as a plethora of individuals in this world are truly suffering and a little kindness and helpfulness can go a long way. What does being a pharmacist mean? Why did you choose pharmacy? Why did you choose St. John’s University?

Being a pharmacist is more than merely counting pills. Being a pharmacist means being committed to providing high level care to individuals who may be suffering. Being a pharmacist means putting others before yourself and aiding individuals in living life to the fullest depsite medicial conditions and diseases that individuals may endure. Without pharmacists, inidviduals could not recieve medication which would cause a multitude of health epidemics and an overall decreased life expectancy in society. Pharmacists are crucial to maintaining a healthy, stable society. Being a pharmacist means being an individual who wants to make a difference in the lives of others and aid individuals who may be sufferring throughout the world. I chose to study pharmacy because this career path allows me to fulfill my life goal of helping others and creating a difference in the world. I hope that I may use my PharmD degree to benefit society to my best ability and to help individuals around the world who are sufferring. I chose St.Johns University because of its emphasis on charity and helping others. I felt as though the values that St.Johns University holds resonate with my values and my future goals.

Nassau University Medical Center

I volunteered for over four hundred hours in the pharmacy at Nassau University Medical Center. I answered phone calls, threw away expired medication, helped fill prescriptions, mixed liquid medications, and gained a plethora of experience as well as knowledge in the clinical setting.
