This was an important accomplishment to me because it was an award I received for an acrylic painting that I spent around a cumulative 48 hours painting. The painting was a social commentary on AI art and how it can never rival hand-made artistry, a topic that resonates much with me. When I received notice that I won a Gold Key in my e-mail, I was surprised but proud of my achievement and it made me feel heard that the judges also feel the same way about the inauthenticity of AI generated artwork. It was then placed in a gallery and when I visited it, it was amazing to see many forms of authentic artwork that was not made with the usage of AI. Winning this award was important to me because I felt like my social commentary was heard and others feel the same way, and I felt like my efforts into the painting were worth it.
This was an important achievement for me because it was the first time I've been recognized for my art. My mother placed me in art classes since I was six up until I was seventeen, but it was mostly just for pleasure and because it would look good in a portfolio for future schools I'd apply to. In my sophomore year of high school, my art teacher notified my class about an art competition that was taking place called the Scholastic Art and Writing competition. She, however, told us about the competition quite close to the deadline, so when I started working on it, the last day of submission was in three days. For three days after school, I painted a self portrait with dark and gloomy colors that would be symbols for the stresses of life. I titled the painting "Overwhelmed" and I submitted the painting thinking I would not win anything, especially because I only had a few hours for three days to work on it. But, when I received the e-mail that I won a Gold Key, I was ecstatic because that meant that my painting would be placed in the Metropolitan Museum for a few months in the education branch. I was able to visit my painting in the education branch and upon seeing it, it felt surreal because it was the first time I've been recognized in a competition for my work.
A pharmacist is a healthcare professional who provides medical assistance to any person for the sake of their welfare. I chose pharmacy as my major because both of my parents are pharmacists and after having the opportunity to see what they do for others firsthand I was interested in medication and how they can help people stay healthy. I chose to study pharmacy at St. John's University because St. John's has a reputable pharmacy program and I know some pharmacist alumni from here, including my mother. They feel that the school has prepared them for their career well, and I know that the school will help prepare me the same way.
