Problem Solving
Professionalism
Advocacy
Leadership
Based on the values and skills you selected above, describe (in at least 5 sentences) how this experience made you think and act as future pharmacist.: This experience really showed me how important it is to advocate for patients as a pharmacist. It wasn't just about making sure the patient had insulin-it was about figuring out why her medication wasn't working and finding a solution. Seeing that the issue was a manufacturer defect made me realize how crucial it is to troubleshoot problems and not just assume user error. Working with the team to help her navigate the insurance process also showed me how much pharmacists need to understand insurance policies and be able to communicate with different parties to get patients what they need. More than anything, it reminded me that being a good pharmacist means always putting the patient first and making sure they get safe, effective treatment.

leadership reflection

1. One of the successful leadership physiologies I practiced during our discussion would be an excellent team. Having the qualities and behaviors of a good team player, both the leader and the team members that are being led, would improve cohesion, boost morale, and drive the group's collective success. This approach strengthened my team, brought about effective collaboration and support, and set an excellent example for the team members. Having a good/ bad team player can make or break a group. Also, my team was a good team player because everyone understood the goals and assignments assigned to each team member. For example, one person in the group made a Google doc to type in every necessary thing that is needed to access the patient's case; we all came together as a team and took notes of the patient's case so that just in case there was an error in the information of the patient and another person would have a correct one. During the whole conversation, we communicated as a team and came up with what was wrong and the approach, we would take to correct the wrong in the case. So, a good team spirit helped with cohesiveness, collaboration, etc. Another example that shows I was a good team player was when we were going back and forth with DDI with any of the medication; we were deep into the conversation, and I checked the Lexicomp.

  1.  One of the unsuccessful leadership physiologies I practiced during our discussion was time management. We could not manage our time well because we had to finish what we had started this week. When it comes to leadership, one of the first essential qualities of a leader is time-oriented. As a leader, I didn't prioritize tasks accordingly, and I managed my time efficiently to ensure productivity and timely completion of projects. For example, while everyone was taking notes when the professor was reading the case to us, the other leaders could have thought about assigning 2-3 people to do that while other people would have been doing something else; this strategy would have saved us time and would not be behind. Another example of the thing that was done during which we could have done to save time while we were looking into what the issues might be with the patient case that was assigned to my group, we took a while to come up with plans, and we could have decreased the time. Despite my efforts to finish it on time, we couldn't. The next time, I would plan and strategize accordingly to finish on time because it is essential to be on time, even in the real world, working as a pharmacist.

Well being Reflection

  • One thing I have been doing lately to take care of myself is trying to sleep a little bit more. Compared to my P1 year, I have been trying to sleep more to prevent burnout. Also, I have been trying to take a little break away from schoolwork whenever possible.
  • I want to eat healthier and clean because lately, I have been eating food that is not so healthy. Also, I would like to do more physical exercise because it is what I enjoyed doing before coming to school. One of the most significant barriers would be time management and how I would fit in my gym time to all that is happening. Another barrier is eating healthily costs a lot of money, and as a pharmacist student, I only work a little to be able to afford it; however, it is something I'm looking forward to doing when I start making money.

Based on the values and skills you selected above, describe (in at least 5 sentences) how this experience made you think and act as future pharmacist.: This experience reinforced the importance of collaboration as a future pharmacist, as I worked alongside the healthcare team while the doctor led the conversation with the patient. Although I did not speak directly with the patient, I contributed by analyzing medication-related challenges and discussing potential solutions with the team. This strengthened my problem-solving skills, as we explored ways to improve medication adherence, such as involving the daycare for support. Through professionalism, I respected the roles of other team members while ensuring that medication management considerations were addressed. This case also highlighted the need for advocacy, as we considered financial assistance options like MassHealth and an Elderly Assistance Waiver to support the patient's healthcare access. Lastly, it emphasized leadership in coordinating medication-related interventions and ensuring follow-ups, preparing me to take the initiative in optimizing patient care as a pharmacist.
