I was born and raised In northeast Africa, Eritrea. My country has nine different tribes and I am very familiar with all of them. I am from a Tribe called Tigrigna and we are the most dominant tribe in the country and also this is the only Christian tribe in my country. The other eight remaining tribes are Muslim. Muslim a Christian are the only two legally allowed religions in the country. We don't learn about diversity since we have already been diverse ever since. One of the greates cultural wealth we had growing up was that we had so many legally recognized holidays ( for both the Muslim and Christian), and we had a lot of days off and celebrations. When I moved to Ethiopia, I learned the Ethiopian national language and get to meet people from other different tribes as well. from my experience, I have become very aware of the cultural differences and value its's beauty as it shines.
I completed my first fieldwork rotation at Arizona Mental Health State Hospital. I was on the civil side which means that the patients on this side are adults with a serious mental illness. These patients are admitted to this side of the hospital because they are considered DTO (danger to others), DTS (danger to self), or PAD (persistently and acutely disabled). The great majority of them have some combination of thought disorder and mood disorder. (Schizophrenia, depression, bipolar), substance abuse and cognitive challenges are few to name. Throughout my rotation at ASH, I was involved in the vocational training program, life skills, anger management, creative arts, music, incoming patient interview( interview of the newly arriving patient for admission and on-unit programs. This was my first-hand experience being around people with mental illness and I found it very eye-opening. It was such a great experience!
I am a member of the National Society OF Leadership.
I can fluently speak and write two languages besides English. Tigrigna is my primary language and it is the national language of my country Eritrea. The second language I speak is Amharic, which is also the national language fo Ethiopia. In terms of language, I can live fluently fine in both Eritrea and Ethiopia.
My name is Lielti Araya, but most people know me as Lula. I was born and raised in Eritrea, a small country located in northeast Africa, along the red sea coast. I left home when I was a high school student to escape from the authoritarian regime and the endless bloody war. I ended up at a refugee camp in Ethiopia and later moved to the United States via the World Relief Refugee Resentment Process. I arrived in Seattle Washington, which I identify as my home in the US. I completed my high school in Seattle, then I move to spoken and earned my undergraduate degree from Eastern Washington University. My undergraduate was a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Psychology and a minor in health service administration. Currently, I am a student at Northern Arizona University; studying occupational therapy.

My first travel experience was in summer 2017, I went to Israel Jerusalem for vacation. I visited a lot of the monasteries, visited the Jordan River, I visited Jarico and Bethlehem which are considered the oldest cities of the world in Palestine. I also got to see the dead and a lot of other sacred places. It was the best vacation ever. My second vacation was Montreal Quebec, but I didn't like it that much because I didn't find anything familiar and also I don't speak French. However, I love traveling.
