My Bio: Lucy Seipel
Lucy Seipel
My name is Lucy Seipel, and I am a Second Professional Year (P2) student at the University of Findlay College of Pharmacy. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Ohio University, where I graduated early in December 2022. I initially worked as a certified pharmacy technician for one year before becoming a pharmacy intern, and I have since gained experience in both hospital and retail pharmacy settings. These roles have helped me build a strong foundation in patient care, hospital pharmacy operations, and medication management.
My career goal is to complete a postgraduate residency and pursue a career in hospital pharmacy, with particular interest in specialized areas such as oncology or veterinary pharmacy. I am committed to advancing my clinical knowledge, strengthening my patient-care skills, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based pharmacy services.
Goals (Personal & Professional): Lucy Seipel
Goals for Fall 2025 Semester IPPE - Independent Pharmacy
Goal 1:
By the end of this IPPE rotation, I will assist with at least 3 mobile or in-pharmacy vaccine clinics, completing tasks such as preparing supplies, reviewing forms, documenting administrations, and communicating with patients. I will then reflect on how pharmacists improve vaccine access in community and long-term care settings.
Goal 2:
Throughout my IPPE hours, I will engage in at least ten direct patient or caregiver interactions across the pharmacy, including OTC consults, vaccine conversations, and medication-related questions. I will reflect on how my communication skills and confidence improved over time.
Goals (Personal & Professional): Lucy Seipel
Goals for Spring 2025 IPPE - Retail Pharmacy
I will provide recommendations for at least three over-the-counter (OTC) medications to patients, under the supervision of a preceptor, to build my confidence in advising patients in a community pharmacy setting. This will allow me to gain hands-on experience in an area I have not encountered in my hospital work.
Since I have only worked in a hospital setting, I will familiarize myself with community pharmacy operations by observing and participating in at least three key processes, such as prescription filling, patient interactions, and insurance claims processing. This will help me gain a well-rounded understanding of the differences between hospital and community pharmacy workflows.
Internships: Lucy Seipel
Fall 2025 IPPE Hours
During my 50-hour community IPPE with Dr. Tan Thai at Old Village Pharmacy, I gained hands-on experience in both pharmacy workflow and patient-focused services. I assisted with multiple mobile and in-pharmacy vaccine clinics, helped review consent forms, prepared supplies, and worked directly with patients in long-term care and community settings. Inside the pharmacy, I participated in prescription filling, Dispill packaging, and answering patient questions at the counter. Throughout the rotation, I strengthened my communication skills, improved my confidence in patient interactions, and learned how independent pharmacies manage daily operations. This experience helped me connect classroom learning to real practice and supported my growth as a future pharmacist.

Spring 2025 IPPE Hours
For my Spring 2025 IPPE rotation, I completed 100 hours at CVS in downtown Columbus under the guidance of my preceptor, Bryan Helm, where I actively engaged in a variety of tasks in a busy retail pharmacy setting. I administered vaccines and processed prescriptions by entering new orders, transferring existing ones, and writing accurate sig codes, ensuring that every detail met patient safety standards. In addition, I prepared medications by counting, labeling, and pulling products while also handling voicemail prescriptions with precision. I assisted with patient counseling on over-the-counter products and navigated the OTC aisles to create informative worksheets that outlined dosages along with both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic counseling points. Moreover, I managed a high volume of phone calls, coordinating with prescribers and other pharmacies to clarify orders and address insurance-related issues. This diverse range of responsibilities sharpened my technical skills and enhanced my communication, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of community pharmacy operations.
