Brooke Smith: Advocate for Change in Criminal Justice ????
Meet Brooke Smith, a passionate advocate for understanding the human psyche and transforming the criminal justice system. At 43, Brooke is not only a devoted mother to three amazing children—her daughter (26), and two sons (21 and 16)—but also a proud grandmother to her beautiful granddaughter, Aria, who recently graced their lives at just two months old. ????????
Brooke’s journey of personal growth took a transformative turn in 2019 when she returned to school. Since then, she has earned her Bachelor's degree in Mental Development Psychology and is currently on track to graduate with her Criminal Justice Degree in October 2024, specializing in Criminal Profiling and Criminology. Her passion for psychology was ignited by her desire to better understand her autistic son, who also navigates ADHD—challenges she approaches with compassion rather than reliance on medications.
While reflecting on her childhood dreams of running a turtle farm or car auctions with her father, Brooke built a substantial career over nearly 15 years at Walmart's Home Office in Transportation and Logistics. However, personal losses—including the passing of both parents and all three brothers—propelled her into the field of Criminal Justice. These experiences fueled her commitment to exploring the psychological triggers that lead individuals toward criminal behavior.
Brooke believes that criminal profiling should evolve beyond merely investigating past actions; it should focus on proactively identifying psychological triggers that can prevent crime before it occurs. Her mission is clear: to build a more compassionate and effective justice system that prioritizes real solutions over punitive measures. ????
As someone who values connection over competition, Brooke views professional networking as an opportunity for shared growth rather than a contest of accomplishments. “Engaging in professional networking is like attending a family reunion where everyone is trying to outdo each other’s accomplishments,” she reflects humorously but insightfully.
Her mantra? “Where Connections Are Made—But So Are Rivalries.” In this spirit, she eagerly looks forward to hearing diverse perspectives from others on similar journeys.
In summary, Brooke Smith embodies resilience and dedication as she pursues knowledge while navigating life's challenges with grace. With an unwavering commitment to changing perceptions within the criminal justice system through education and advocacy, she aims not just for personal success but also for collective progress toward understanding human behavior more deeply.
