Medical Assisting Internship provides us with the hands-on experience by having us complete 160-hours of internship. While completing these hours there are assignments of journals. This journal was completed at my 50-hour mark. This included writing about how it’s going at my internship site, positive experiences, negative experiences, suggestions we recommend for our onsite internship supervisor. As well as providing research to prove on what are benefits of those improvements. At my internship site there is a lot of different types of religions, cultures and more. Rohingya, Spanish, Vietnamese these are languages that are more common that we use interpreter carts for.

In Pharmacology we learned drug schedules, the metric vs. the household system, different classifications of drugs, etc. We also learned the math equation to solve to properly dose compared to our dose ordered vs. the dose we have available. We also went over how to convert lbs. to kg. For this competency there was a math exam that required a pass of 90% accuracy to pass the course. This ensures correct dosing for patients and applying these skills as a future Medical Assistant.

The course Career Development or SOSC225, we went over things like preparing our resumes, doing mock interviews, preparing our ePortfolios and updating and making my MyCred professional and prepared for my Medical Assisting Internship class. For this portfolio assignment we were tasked with, applying the topics we have learned to prepare ourselves for internship and our work careers. We also had to write about our future goals and or plans to ensure I am keeping my resume and ePortfolio/MyCred up to date. |

The course Principles of Psychology we learned about different types of psychological disorders such as anxiety, ADHD. For this assignment we had to pick two topics explain the symptoms, define a psychological disorder, treatment as well as effects on daily life and work careers. This assignment also included voice recording the presentation and citing reliable resources. |

Anatomy & Physiology included learning things such as the body systems, urinary system, digestive system, reproductive systems, human development and more. The final project consisted of picking out a disease and creating a presentation of at least 5 minutes with a partner. We were to use reliable resources and site them on the last page. |

Medical Laboratory was filled with a wide range of skills as well as competencies that were to be completed. These skills consisted of phlebotomy, lab and specimen handling, urine cultures, and more. Before handling blood, we had to understand the safety as well as how to properly handle and obtain blood specimens. For this portfolio assignment we had to pass a bloodborne pathogen quiz to ensure success as a Medical Assistant who will encounter blood often.

Demonstrate and practice behavior consistent with the legal and ethical standards of the profession. |

The course clinical procedures consisted of learning skills from the clinical aspect which include manual and automatic blood pressures, pulse, temperature, weight, height, as well as EKGs. For this portfolio project we had to learn the verbiage for the placement of each electrode as well as complete 5 successful EKGs to ensure our knowledge and skills on EKGs. We also learned different types of rhythms as well as why there may be artifacts that may show up on an EKG trace. |
Medical Office was a course in which we learned the administrative aspect of Medical Assisting. We completed making phone calls to schedule appointments with patients. This would often include confirming insurance, understanding the different types of scheduling systems as well as communicating with different types of patients (or in this case classmates acting as patients). This would all be completed while interacting professionally to complete a telehealth visit.
